STRAITSFORECAST (SF) service provides high quality current forecast data to the marine and offshore industry. SF services is delivered to ship masters, pilots and operators of Singapore's port operators via a web-based Info@SEA^TM system.

SF replaces traditional sources of information for tidal height and currents. The innovation was developed in response to the needs of the maritime and shipping community, which has been requesting for detailed tide and current information to improve operational safety and efficiency.

Info@SEA^TM is a pioneering met-ocean information system with value-added application systems to enhance operational and cost efficiency as well as navigational safety in a port. The idea for Info@SEA^TM evolved from discussions between BMT Asia Pacific, DHI Water & Environment and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. The three partners jointly developed the idea into an R&D project, leveraging on each other's expertise and experience to develop a technological solution of value to the maritime community.

The one-year project, which included user acceptance trials, was successfully completed in June 2006. All of the 14 participating companies found SF to be a very useful service, and most indicated interest to purchase the service.

In July 2006, the three partners established a joint venture Info@SEA Pte Ltd to commercialise the SF services. To date, SF services have been used for planning yachting regattas, investigations of marine accidents, as well as deployed for various reclamation projects.
